In praise of the jumper dress

photo-5Question: What’s better than a nice jumper? A nice jumper dress of course! After all, more is more, especially in winter. And when it’s cold, I don’t know about you but I want my jumper to stretch a bit further than my midriff (though maybe not quite to my knees). This one has a nice exposed zip at the back, signalling to everyone that it is in fact meant to be a dress/tunic and not my husband’s jumper which I’ve been stretching over bent knees for a week (although what would be wrong with that really?). I’m all for a man-sized jumper but you don’t always have to go that far.jumperdress3-copyI first spied this jumper dress when I popped it in a wish list here and the folks at Sainsburys Tu, kindly sent it my way so I could try it out. Since then, it’s been serving me very well and I recently wore it on a trip to London (hence the obligatory pretty street shots).jumper-dressI sized it up so that it didn’t look too clingy (jumper dresses have a habit of doing that if you’re not careful) and I think it works better as a looser shape, so there’s room to layer up underneath too. However this baggy, over-sized look needs skinny jeans, leggings, even tights to balance it out. I wore it with my M&S faux leather leggings here (now sold out but these would do nicely), but it also looks cute with a pair of slim-fitting cigarette pants and loafers. Think mature student meets cool french gallery worker (of which I am neither sadly).

Heads up: my jumper dress has now sold out on the Tu site but this navy cable knit version is just as nice and comes in oatmeal too. Thanks to my good friend Natasha for taking these photos.

Love a good jumper dress! I’m constantly on the lookout for cosy things to wear when I’m working from home (and can’t really justify having the heating on all day). Sad it’s sold out! x

Ah how I miss the jumper dress. I’ve had to shirk from them this year (and last year) due to not being breast-friendly, but I love the idea of layering up so you don’t have to flash everything if you need to feed a grumpy baby!

Yeah, they’re no good for breastfeeding I’m afraid, unless you fancy getting undressed in front of everyone! 🙂 xx

You know, my family tease me for it, but I actually love Sainsbury’s for clothes! I think they’re really good value and I’ve picked up some really nice bits there. I have one dress – a black and white art deco style patterned thing – that always gets loads of compliments and is super easy to wash and wear.
