AUTUMN FLORALS

Florals for autumn…groundbreaking. Well not really but for some reason I find them easier to wear at this time of year.¬†

Tricky weather isn’t it? There’s a definite nip in the air up north and my summer clothes and sandals already seem like a distant memory. But I’m easing my way in with a couple of new purchases. As I mentioned in this post: my 5 autumn must-haves, I’d picked up a floral midi dress recently and it feels like a good transition piece worn with bare legs and a jacket / cardi on crisp, sunny days.

I’m also chuffed that western-style buckle boots (and anything red generally) looks to be still going strong this autumn as I have a couple of pairs I hung on to. This is why I never throw anything away (and have a shoe/coat mountain). Actually I did have a bit of a clear out the other day which coincided with a massive clean of the house (not a common occurrence). I also swapped over my summer wardrobe, packing some dresses and blouses away for next time. It felt good, I have to tell you.

It always surprises me, the reaction I get from the kids when I wear a proper dress (as opposed to just jeans/trousers and a top which tends to be a bit of a uniform). It’s usually pretty favourable (gasps and wows from the girls) and reminds me why I enjoy getting dressed up a little, even just for a normal day of school run / meetings etc. It lifts your mood and is actually quicker and easier to throw on a frock instead of hunting for a clean top from the ‘messy chair’. NB: mine got quite out of hand over the holidays!

And while this dress may seem a bit frou-frou with its ruffles and chintzy print, it’s surprisingly easy to wear with its dark back ground. You can play it down with black/neutrals or lift it with primary colours. I’d love to wear it with a big red cable knit too like this one.

I really really love this dress. It’s kind of timeless. Suits you … and I hope that it suits me because I’m going to try and find one x
