OUTFIT MATHEMATICS #4

What is it about summer that makes us (me) throw caution to the wind and start considering floral printed trousers? I know, know, I should know better after all these years but how good is that outfit, seriously?

Look I know there are many people who will be sticking religiously to their summer uniform of jeans and white tees (etc, etc) and if that works for you, then fine, as you were. But maybe, just for a few weeks of the year, we can push that sartorial envelope and perhaps think about something florid, colourful and possibly even tropical?

After all, it just works so well with a breton striped top (which you’re never going to regret buying more of). And if you’re worried trousers like these are just a little bit too ‘nan’s curtains’ then focus on the accessories, which as ever, are crucial to making an outfit look current. Especially if you include THAT circular basket bag and would transition into autumn slightly better than many other straw totes of the moment.

If, on the other hand, I’m preaching to the converted and you’re fully on board with a summer print like this, then may I suggest this amazing jumpsuit, which nails the trend in one (and you could always pull a sweater over the top on days when you don’t want to go all out! I’ve linked to a few other options below too.

White sunglasses continue to be an easy way to add a bit of edge to your outfit when you fancy switching things up and now is the chance to wear them as I don’t believe they really work at any other time than summer – unless you’re Debbie Harry and of course we can all only ever aspire to be as cool as her.

And finally, let’s discuss this whole yellow thing that’s going on this season. Yellow dresses: a trend I’m NOT convinced by as I think it’s such a hard colour to wear (for me, anyway). I have a feeling it would just make my skin look sallow and clash with my hair (but if you’re lucky enough to suit it, go for it). So instead I would content myself by dipping my toe (physically and figuratively-speaking) into a pair of ochre-coloured sandals.

Hope you’re enjoying this beautiful weather!?
