October: an Instagram catch up

October has been a treat really hasn’t it? Mild weather, beautiful autumnal colours, Halloween fun and it was my birthday month too so I really can’t complain. My instagram tends to focus on the little/pretty things I’m enjoying each day and I like to look back over it to remind myself of what’s been going on as another month zooms on past.

autumnI don’t know about you but I’ve definitely been enjoying more hearty grub recently. As well as my French Toast revival, I’ve also been craving more rich pasta dishes, morning pastries dipped in hot chocolate and soups with good bread. I guess it’s just the time of year. I also went back to one of my favourite Harrogate restaurants recently; The Yorkshire Meatball Co. where they serve their meatballs with giant Yorkshire puddings. It’s so good!

Autumnal photographsThis month we’ve enjoyed getting out and about with the kids as much as possible. Even now the clocks have gone back and it’s starting to get dark at about 4.30pm we’re still trying to stretch the most out of the weekend. Last week we even had a ‘night walk’ along the Stray which is well lit by street lights but also by the lovely coloured, twinkly lights on each of the trees, which can only really be enjoyed once dusk hits. It’s one of the things I love most about Harrogate; when the winter lights come on and the place glitters at night like a jewellery box. I *wish* I could capture it on film but sadly I think it’s beyond me and my camera but I’ll keep trying.

Baking kitsWe’ve just reached the end of the half term holidays here, which has actually flown past so I guess that’s a good sign. We managed to keep ourselves entertained for a good hour by decorating these lovely ready made alphabet biscuits which BKD kindly sent to us. The kit included a set of delicious biscuits in a choice of shapes or letters along with icing and toppings to decorate. You can get other baking kits too like monster cupcakes. Take a look: www.bkd-london.com It also really helped that the kids went to stay with one of their aunts and uncles for a night and had their first proper sleepover. As well as pumpkin carving and apple-bobbing we also dressed up and watched a new film – Malificent (loved it).

Kat got the CreamAnd finally, I turned another year older (and hopefully wiser). Greig spoiled me by treating me to a couple of spa treatments and afternoon tea. I only ever seem to do these things once a year but it’s always such bliss to give my face and body a bit of TLC. I vow that this will be the year that I really start to look after this skin of mine (more water, less caffeine, better skincare regime and more exercise). But for now at least I think I’ll just allow myself to hibernate a bit longer and enjoy Christmas when it comes. After all, what’s life without a few pleasures.

lifestyle bloggerSpeaking of which, there’s that bottle of Orla Kiely perfume I treated myself to. It’s lighter and more floral than my favourite Diptyque (which I often save for evenings out) so I think this new fragrance shall now be my everyday perfume, because another of my birthday resolutions is not to save things for special occasions but to enjoy them every day.

What a lovely look at your month! I know what you mean about heartier food. I keep saying I’m going to get back on the green smoothie breakfast bandwagon but the call of eggs on toast is too great in the morning.
