A few weeks ago I spent a long but fun day in the studio with White Stuff, shooting some photos and making some short films all about summer dressing. And now that things are warming up, the results will be available to see soon. Spoiler alert: I’m not in a bikini, you’ll be glad to know! But for now, I thought I’d show you a few of the behind-the-scenes pix from the day.
I love working with White Stuff; they’re known as one of the nicest brands in the business for a reason and always come up with some really special pieces each season. Their spring/summer ranges in particular have lots of pretty lightweight knits, linen and cotton plus cute jackets and original prints. And they do a pretty amazing range of summer accessories if you’re not already up on that – check out the sandals and pretty purses this year!
So I was really flattered when they asked me to work with them on their summer campaign and talk about all those dressing conundrums the season throws up, from weekend wear and day-to-night dressing to summer staycations and parties. I’ve picked out some of my favourite pieces from the new collections to show you how I’d wear them as well as ways to work them into your wardrobe too.
But first things first, I needed a hot cuppa to warm up on that chilly morning and was straight into hair and make-up! On the odd occasion I get a professional to do this stuff for me (i.e. wedding day) it’s always a treat as I’m pretty clueless and go quite minimal the rest of the time. Plus I love to have a quick snoop to see what products/tools they have in their arsenal (lots of Bobby Brown and MAC usually!). Recommendations? A Clinique face primer and the amazing MAC face and body make-up that transformed my winter arms and legs into something slightly less scary!
Next it was time to have a rifle through the rails, picking out some of the pieces that immediately caught my eye: lots of lovely fresh white tops with pretty detailing and brodie anglaise, an embellished jacket perfect for dressing up jeans and a pair of pale blue, cotton drill trousers that I would happily live in all summer. I also wanted ALL the bags and shoes! Then it was show time! Having your husband snap you while standing against a brick wall or talking into my camera in my office while everyone is out, that’s one thing. Sitting in a bright, styled set with a microphone, three cameras, a photographer, his assistants, two videographers plus all the White Stuff crew (waiting for you to say something vaguely coherent) was quite another! Thankfully everyone on the set was super friendly and it was as relaxed as it could be. To be fair, it was just a cuppa and a chat, talking about clothes so not rocket science. And the lovely Hannah from White Stuff, who played interviewer for the day, put me at ease and made me giggle (too much actually, especially after several cups of coffee ha!). Two things: 1) I want that silver envelope bag very much and 2) why is it, every where I go these days, there’s a cute dog? I think it’s a sign that we should get one. This lovely old thing kept us company on the shoot all day with barely a woof.
Anyway, I’ll be sharing lots more photos and ideas over the summer as well as four mini films, showcasing some of the outfits I put together, as well as a few other bits of blogger chat. The first, entitled The Weekend Wardrobe Fixer, is up now.
You can watch it here – hope you like!
