Coat on, coat off? Sunglasses and knits? Boots or ballet pumps? Autumn is a beautiful yet fickle time of year.

I’ve really enjoyed getting back into my autumn wardrobe lately; bringing out the winter coats and beanie hats. But it’s tempting to pile on all the thick, wooly layers and then feel a bit overset. The day we took these photos was the most beautifully mild and sunny day and I was so glad I was wearing a floaty dress as it felt like summer again. By rights this outfit would look better with boots and I’d definitely swap them in now but it just felt like too nice a day to cosset myself up. Plus, to be quite frank dear reader, I had just shaved my legs and I wasn’t going to waste them in jeans.
About that frock. It’s a little bargain I found in TK Maxx. They got in touch to see if I’d like to choose a dress from my local store and style it up for autumn. And, well, it’s just the perfect colour for this time of year isn’t it? I didn’t really know I ‘needed’ a dress like this until I spotted it and that’s the magic of TK Maxx – you never know what you’re going to find! As ever, I like my patterns clashing so I knew I’d wear this with some checks, which thankfully are still big this season. I know everyone is going crazy over leopard print but I think I’ll just happily indulge my check obsession instead.
I love wearing midi dresses at this time of year when we still have one foot in summer and one in autumn. Once it gets really cold I’ll start layering up with long-sleeved tees and polo necks and maybe some shorter length leggings hidden underneath. Not to mention a hat of course. I feel like I can get away with most things as long as my head’s warm! And finally I couldn’t resist a dash of red to stop things looking too beige. I also think dusky pink looks really nice with these rusty autumnal shades and can imagine this dress would look great with one of this season’s corduroy jackets.
P.S. I also had conkers in my pocket 🙂
