Hope you don’t mind but today I’m throwing the spotlight on my husband Greig. I don’t know if I could write this blog without his help and support so I thought it was time you got to know him a little better (and find out what it’s really like being married to this blogger). The other day I emailed him so questions to consider and this is how he replied.
HELLO! IS IT A BIT WEIRD THAT YOU’RE FILLING IN A QUESTIONNAIRE FOR MY BLOG?
Erm, yes! Actually no, I’m sort of used to helping out with blog stuff. I don’t mind mucking in, it’s quite fun actually.
DO YOU MIND BEING ON KAT GOT THE CREAM (OR HAVE I CLEARLY TWISTED YOUR ARM)?
I’m still the only person who reads it aren’t I? Only joking, I’m your number one fan! Over the years I’ve slowly been promoted from ‘the mister’ or ‘Mr. S’ and am now on first name terms.
WHAT’S THE BEST BIT ABOUT BEING MARRIED TO A BLOGGER?
Taking part in lots of random activities and visiting new places to blog about. It means we’re constantly out doing stuff as a family which is great. It also means we capture so many moments of everyday life in photos – far more than our parents did when we were kids. Gone are the days when the camera only came out on birthdays, holidays and Christmas.
AND THE WORST?
Having to take all those photos!! You lose a little of the spontaneity but it’s not too bad. Actually it’s the outfit shots that are the worst because you get annoyed with me! I prefer it when we can take more fun, reportage style photos and get on with enjoying ourselves.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN YOUR SPARE TIME WHEN YOU’RE NOT BEING HARASSED TO TAKE PHOTOS?
Life pretty much revolves around the kids at the moment. They’re only young once so I take every chance to play, wrestle, bake, craft and throw them around whilst I still can. I also enjoy cooking (which is good because, let’s be honest it’s not your favourite thing) and watching Netflix / films with you. Other than that, I dabble in a little local Green politics and am slowly getting back into my martial arts (Jiu Jitsu).
When I’m not having to play the Tangled/ Frozen/ Brave soundtrack yet again I also like to dig out my old electronica / dance favourites plus new alternative music. I heard Public Service Broadcasting at a festival a couple of years ago and they absolutely blew the top off the tent – this was at 10:30 in the morning as well when most people were tucking into a coffee and bacon rolls! So I’ve been listening to their new album lots recently.
This is your favourite story isn’t it? It was pure luck – a sliding doors moment. I was ordering a round of cocktails at a bar in Leeds with workmates. We had stayed the weekend to work rather than commute back home to London and had been out for a curry earlier that night. After ordering a round for 10 people I turned to the girl on my right to apologise that she might be waiting a while (there was only one barman at the time). She was courteous and smiled but wasn’t interested in striking up a conversation with this random bloke. However, in that brief exchange I had fallen for her and insisted on adding to my order for her and her friend. I managed to get chatting with her and she was clever, funny and gorgeous. I hadn’t planned on going out that night, so I was in a scruffy t-shirt and beanie hat but I managed to convince her to meet me again later that weekend, which we did and the rest, as they say, is history. By the way – I still own that t-shirt which I will never throw away.
HOW HAVE YOU REMAINED SANE AFTER 3 KIDS AND TEN YEARS?
I’m not entirely sure I have. Its been tough sometimes, just the two of us, but I love our little family and we have a lot of fun. The grey hair has gone wild in the last few years, which is annoying considering I’m actually younger than you.
Forgetful, fun and friendly. I’ve a memory like a sieve these days – much to your annoyance. I blame you and the kids entirely.
DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE
I’m not sure if you’d call it a style, but it has to be unique and have colour or a print. I do have a weakness for shoes and hats. A pair of yellow leather brogues are my favourite recent purchase.
DO YOU LIKE YOUR NEW WATCH?
Oh I wondered when you were going to get to the point of all this. Actually, yes I really do. You always seem to choose stuff I like. I didn’t used to wear a watch but you bought me one for our wedding which I wore constantly until it broke about 2 years ago. I still haven’t got round to repairing it so have been watchless for a while until this wooden one by Jord turned up. It’s lightweight and comfy and I love the darker shade of brown. And being made from wood it feels natural and a bit different. I’ve been wearing it for over a month now and so far so good. Thanks!
BONUS QUESTION: WHAT DO YOU *REALLY* THINK OF THIS WHOLE BLOGGING MALARKY?
Keep it up Mrs S! I know it’s been a labour of love for you over 5 years, fitting it in with looking after the kids – I don’t know how you do it! But it’s great that you finally found a job you love. G xx
Hope you liked the interview.
