While I was on holiday I managed to crack out a couple of new frocks that I was waiting to wear, although I hoped I hadn’t left it too late to wear summery dresses on the good old British coast. Luckily, the weather stayed pretty dry and even warm some days. As you can see, I wore this dress from Great Plains for a visit to the beautiful grounds of Holkham Hall (you might remember I featured it as one of my Friday Frocks a while back here so when they kindly asked if I’d like to review an item, this was my first choice). Because there was a little nip in the air I decided to team it with tights and my jelly sandals, so I still felt summery. Of course, it’s never too chilly for an ice cream – they sell some great flavours in the courtyard at Holkham Hall (this was raspberry and champagne – oh yes!).
We had a picnic (I had to get a few in before the summer was out) and the kids decided to gather conkers from the nearest trees (well Charlie knocked them down with a stick and Florence collected them). Most of them were actually under-ripe, which was reassuring as it was still technically meant to be summer NOT autumn! But when the sun disappeared behind a cloud, I would just pull on my cosy sweater. I quite like the way this dress looks with a pullover as it immediately morphs into a cool checked skirt. Maybe I am ready for autumn after all.
