How was your summer? Grab a brew and let’s have a catch up

It’s been a couple of months since my last Happy List so let’s just call this the summer edition shall we? Here’s a little update on what I’ve been loving and liking over the holidays.

A week in Lyme Regis: pastel coloured houses, waking up to the sound of seagulls, early morning beach trips with the kids, fossil hunting, ice cream and fish & chips (1).

Practising what this poster preaches (2). Life is short so figure out what makes you and yours happy and try to do as much of it as possible. For us, that means being by the sea as often as possible. Since we returned from holiday we’ve been taking every opportunity to enjoy our nearest coastline more.

Rediscovering my blogging mojo (still a work in progress). I’ve really struggled with social media this year. After 7 years, it’s sometimes tricky to know what place me and my blog can occupy in this increasingly busy landscape. I’ve been trying to find a way that I can keep going, that feels true to myself and which I can still enjoy. Thanks again to those of you who are still here.

On a less serious note, I’ve also been discovering a love of baby blue nail varnish (3).

Mixing old with new. A new-to-me vintage scarf that my friend spotted in a charity shop (4). As she said, it literally had my name on it! This is why I still love a rummage in a charity shop from time to time.

Summer road trips enjoying good tunes. Recent music purchases have included Future Islands, LP, Haim and the new Blondie album. We’ve also got tickets to see Blondie this autumn for my birthday – life long dream fulfilled.

Watching: Game of Thrones. It just keeps getting better and better. We’re having withdrawal symptoms as usual and wondering how to fill the long wait before the final season. The agony and the ecstasy!

Reading: The whole back catalogue of Maggie O’Farrell, one of my favourite writers. Have you read her new memoir? Might have to pop it on my xmas list.

On that subject, my MA starts soon. I’ve recently had my reading list through so will be ploughing through some new texts and stretching the brain a little (a lot!). For the first time in years I’ve actually got that back to school feeling in September.

And finally, watching my eldest make the leap to high school. He seems to be loving it so far and he’s surprised me with his overall confidence and positivity. So proud of him!

How was your summer? Hope you’ve had a good one.

What MA are you starting? I’m enrolled on the OU English MA starting at the end of the month and am suffering severe imposter syndrome. Good luck with your course.

Hi Sara. I’m doing an MA in Creative Writing. And yes, feeling very much the same as you. Excited but a bit nervous too. Enjoy your course, I’m sure it will be great. Good luck xx
